1. Read some Remembrance Day picture Books

Proud as a Peacock, Brave as a Lion by Jane Barclay

2. Learn About the Role of Indigenous People and Black Canadians

Dig deeper into the Story of Canada’s Code Talkers and Canada’s WW1 all-Black Military Battalion. There are limited resources about the role of these important groups, so please share in the comments if you have any helpful ideas. Also, don’t forget to commemorate Indigenous Veterans Day on November 8th.

3. Simple interactive mini-lesson

This simple mini-lesson is a no-prep resource for Google Slides. Simply project on your screen or video meet, and you’re ready to share easy-to-understand explanations of Remembrance Day vocabulary. It even includes comprehension slides to check for understanding, and keep students engaged. Also available as Boom Cards and each slide includes audio instructions.

4. Write-the-room and letter WRITING templates

These simple FREE vocabulary cards are great for writing centers, Remembrance Day bulletin boards, and write-the-room activities. Have your students write a letter to a veteran or a thank you letter with these differentiated letter templates. If you are writing online, digital versions are also available.
