There are SO many great picture books published each year, it was really difficult to pick just 3!
I decided to pick my Top3 of 2023 based on 3 themes. One with a strong meaningful lesson, one that was really fun, and one that makes you think critically.

#1: The Kindest Red

This book is the sequel to The Proudest Blue. The Kindest Red follows younger sister Faizah, older sister Asiya, and Faizah’s friends as they spread kindness in many different ways. The story is heartwarming, and the illustrations are beautiful!
#2: The Big Cheese
Author: Jory John
Illustrator: Pete Oswald
Cheese has entered the food group book club! The seventh book is SO MUCH FUN! It follows the “Big Cheese” as it competes in the Cheese-cathalon full of exciting events. The Big Cheese learns to be humble, and appreciate that everyone is really good at something, nobody is good at everything.
#3: Apart, Together
Author: Linda Booth Sweeney
Illustrator: Ariel Rutland
This book is a simple (yet powerful) visualization of how parts transform into a whole. The simple examples and beautiful images are sure to spark discussion with your little readers. I love all of the connections to STEM, nature, and more!
